BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday that the man shot in a officer involved shooting in Grant late Thursday afternoon has died from his injuries.

The man has been identified as 35-year-old Ricardo Enrique Colon from Grant.

Colon was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office says the deputies involved in the incident are identified as Deputy Kelly Dobson and Deputy Jose Santos.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office says Deputy Kelly Dobson has been a member of the Sheriff’s Office since October 2001, while Deputy Jose Santos has been a member of the Sheriff’s Office since January 2003.

Santos previously served as a Correction’s Officer in Orange County.

Investigators say the incident took place on February 8, at approximately 4:09 p.m. when the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 4:09 p.m. on Thursday on Honey Lane in Grant after a 911 emergency call was received advising that a man (Colon) was in the process of attempting to commit suicide.

A family member advised BCSO that the man had a sharp edged weapon that he was using to harm himself.

After arriving at the scene, two deputies made contact with Colon using a taser in an attempt to neutralize the Colon’s aggressive actions. After the taser was unsuccessful, deputies then  responded with deadly force.

Both deputies were assigned as patrol deputies for the South Precinct.\ The investigation of the shooting is ongoing.
