TASER guns were used by non-firearms officers in two Welsh police forces 21 times during the first nine months of a controversial trial system, new figures show. All police firearms units have been allowed to use Tasers since April 2004, but Gwent and North Wales Police are part of a trial system that allows non-specialist officers to use them too. The rate at which non-specialist officers are deploying the weapons is increasing as more police are trained to use them.
Police officers also drew or aimed the weapons 850 times between July 2007 and the end of May 2008. An article with many statistics on UK.
