The director of operations of the firm which supplied the Tasers used during the stand-off with gunman Raoul Moat is understood to have killed himself. Former police officer Peter Boatman, of the Daventry firm Pro-Tect, was found dead on Friday morning, h business partner said.
Following the apparent suicide of Pro-Tect manager Peter Boatman after releasing untested weapons to police in the final minutes of Raoul Moat’s life … the Sunday Times provides some background from a 2005 article … THE American manufacturer of Taser, the controversial stun gun, gave the exclusive British distribution rights to a senior serving police officer who helped win Home Office approval for the weapon. Inspector Peter Boatman had a 50% share in a company that sold Tasers at the same time as devising Britain’s first police training programme for the use of weapons.

The company which supplied X12 Tasers used by police during a stand-off with fugitive Raoul Moat has had its licence revoked by the Home Secretary, after it had emerged that the gun fired at Moat by officers – the X12 Taser – was not licensed for distribution under the Firearms Act.
It had been claimed the use of the experimental Taser was at the discretion of individual forces.
