Kashmir police and paramilitary forces deployed in the valley will change from lethal to non-lethal weapons after 62 civilians lost their lives in the ongoing unrest. On Saturday, Aug 21, an Indian Air Force (IAF) plane brought an assortment of non-lethal weapons to Srinagar and this will be immediately distributed for riot control across the valley. But many officials are not sure about the efficacy of these these non-lethal weapons. They described that these weapons can also cause mortality.

In the height of a “terrorist alert” – an innocent Brazilian was shot a week later in the London Underground – Nicholas Gaubert said he was on his way to meet friends when he suffered a fit on the bus and slipped into a coma which left him slumped on his seat clutching his rucksack. Armed police were called to the bus depot in Headingley and when he failed to respond to their challenges he was shot with the Taser.
