MERIDEN — The City Council is satisfied with a report written by Police Chief Jeffry Cossette on the use of force by the Police Department. Although the formal review of the policy has ended, a local NAACP leader said he is not content with the current policy and wants changes.

In December, the council approved a resolution to review the department’s policies on use of force. After being referred to the Public Safety Committee and a review of the policies at a committee meeting, the report from Cossette was accepted unanimously at the council’s meeting this week.

“In talking with the city manager and police chief, we felt there was a sufficient job done in looking into the policies here,” said Public Safety Committee Chairman Kevin Scarpati. “We are up to nationally and state accredited standards with our policies. We are in line with everything.”
